Abstract
With the writing of this paper, the author hopes that readers in particular can deepen their knowledge about one part of the device that supports the performance of the steering engine specifically, the purpose of the author of this paper is to find out how to operate the steering engine, find out the damage to the steering engine and know how to operate the steering engine. maintenance of the steering engine. The data used in this writer is qualitative data. Qualitative data is data from verbal word explanations that cannot be analyzed in the form of numbers or numbers. The data that cadets usually get is directly from the ship's crew through questions regarding the process of the steering engine on the ship. Therefore, the data source is considered in determining the data collection method. Data sources consist of primary data sources and secondary data sources. Interviews were conducted by the author to the chief engineer, as the person in charge during the process of operating the steering engine on the ship, the ship's engineer was asked for information and guidance during sea practice. Observation or observation is an activity towards a process or object with the intention of feeling and then understanding knowledge based on previously known knowledge and ideas. In addition to writing which is carried out on the ship, cadets also write by reading and studying books related to the problems to be discussed in order to obtain a theoretical basis in discussing the problems under study. All series of writing activities are planned when the cadets know the situation with the knowledge from what is obtained through library research. Then a conclusion can be drawn from what has been analyzed and discussed. Then it can give advice on what is appropriate for what is concluded. To make it easier for cadets to conduct research, it is necessary to make a planning diagram so that it can run according to what has been described in this paper.
