Abstract

Windlass is a system of anchor mooring engine which is installed on the ship. In order to know that windlass can work perfectly, regular maintenance is required. The aim of this paper is to know are the cause of windlass damage and to know how to maintain and repair windlass. The writer used to data sources, that are primary data sources. In arranging this paper, the writer collected data by observation interview and literature. The main causes of windlass damage are the broken canvas is worn out and windlass body is rusted. The damage will lead to the windlass the can’t operated properly, ship operation harassed especially when anchorimg process. The cause of broken canvas worn out is caused by friction force between broken canvas and main shaft the rusty windlass body is caused by the lack of grease lubrication so it could be rusted. The crew is expected can discover the causes of windlass damage and carry out windlass maintenance. Keywords: Windlass, maintenance, Reparation
