Abstract
Oil pollution in waters is one of the problems faced by the global community today, including in the maritime sector, the problem of pollution is very important to pay attention to. Because prevention of oil pollution is very important, it is regulated in MARPOL 73/78 Annex I concerning the prevention of oil pollution from ships. Oil pollution in waters is more common than on land. Oil pollution in the sea is a source of pollution that has always been the focus of attention of the wider community, because the impact can be quickly felt by the people around the coast and very significantly damages living creatures in the sea. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to determine the supervision carried out by KSOP Class I Panjang to prevent oil pollution, to know the sources of oil pollution, and how to handle oil pollution that occurs. The method used in analyzing and processing data is qualitative analysis using data collection methods by means of observation. Based on the research results, KSOP Class I Panjang conducts supervision by examining ship documents, where one of the sources of pollution is from marine transportation activities and maintenance of ships, but there are three ways of handling it, namely by means of physics, chemistry and biology. As for overcoming oil pollution, namely by examining the means of preventing and handling pollution on ships, providing temporary storage for unused oil, and each method of controlling oil must be carried out appropriately, because it has different and each weaknesses. ways are made to cover the weaknesses of one way in another.
