Abstract

Diesel engines are one of the prime movers that are many used in ships now. Every Diesel Engine on the ship is also equipped with a turbocharger which functions to utilize the exhaust gas energy to rotate the turbine and the turbine rotation will be forwarded by the compressor which will produce air into the cylinder so that ignition still perfect. However, many crew members do not understand how to maintain the turbocharger. Limitations of information and maintenance that is not in accordance with the manual book make condition make the turbocharger even worse, for that engineers on board must better understand information about the engines on board and carry out maintenance in accordance with the manual book. Key words : Turbocharger, exhaust gas, produce, maintenance.
