Abstract
Air pollution is one of the problems facing the global community today, the issue of air pollution in the maritime sector is very important to be a concern. The purpose of this paper to identify the cause of air pollution. Efforts to preventio air pollution, and support to reduce air pollution on a ship, prevention of air pollution is regulated in MARPOL 73/78 appendix VI which was amended in the 1997 protocol on ANNEX VI concering the prevention of air pollution from ships. The methods used in the paper is direct observation, interviews to crew ships, study libraries. And direct documentation. The result achived have been completed by means maintenance of machinery, fuel replacement, and the addition of assistive divices that to reducing air pollution. And the conclusion of the problem is that the writer has known good fuel for the ship, the regulational care of machinery, and add tools of an exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS) or scrubbers helps to play a key role in the process of air pollution.
