Abstract

Public transportation plays an important role in supporting community mobility and reducing dependence on private vehicles. However, public interest in using public transportation in Ngawi City remains relatively low. This study aims to analyze the effects of Travel Cost (X1), Comfort and Ease of Access (X2), and Travel Time (X3) on people's interest in choosing public transportation modes. The sample in this study consisted of 92 respondents who were members of the community in Ngawi City and were considered relevant to the research objectives. The sampling technique employed was non-probability sampling using the saturated sampling method. Data were collected through questionnaires, and the data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis, including validity testing, reliability testing, classical assumption testing, and hypothesis testing. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis produced the following equation: Y = −5.675 + 0.458X1 + 0.549X2 + 0.407X3 + μ. The results of the t-test indicate that the three independent variables, namely Travel Cost, Comfort and Ease of Access, and Travel Time, have a positive and significant effect on people's interest in choosing public transportation modes. The coefficient of determination (Adjusted R²) was 0.500 (50%), indicating that 50% of the variation in people's interest can be explained by the three independent variables, while the remaining 50% is explained by other factors outside the research model. This study provides an overview of the factors influencing people's decisions to choose public transportation in Ngawi City. The findings indicate that improving service quality, providing affordable travel costs, ensuring ease of access, and increasing travel-time efficiency are important aspects in encouraging greater public interest in using public transportation. These findings are expected to serve as considerations for transportation service providers and local government in formulating more effective, comfortable, and community-oriented public transportation development strategies. Keywords: Travel Cost, Comfort and Accessibility, Travel Time, Public Interest, Public Transportation.
