Abstract
Shipping safety is one of the most important aspects in supporting sea transportation as it is directly related to the safety of passengers, crew members, cargo, and the continuity of ship operations. This study aims to analyze the influence of ship navigation equipment, crew competence, and cargo capacity on shipping safety aboard ships operated by PT. Dharma Lautan Utama, Parepare Branch, South Sulawesi. The population of this study consisted of 100 respondents, comprising 89 crew members and 11 operational employees of PT. Dharma Lautan Utama, Parepare Branch, South Sulawesi. The sample included all 100 respondents using the saturated sampling technique. This research employed a quantitative method with data collected through observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 25 through validity testing, reliability testing, classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression analysis, t-test, F-test, and the coefficient of determination (R²). The results indicate that adequate ship navigation equipment, competent crew members, and appropriate cargo capacity have a positive and significant effect on shipping safety aboard ships operated by PT. Dharma Lautan Utama, Parepare Branch, South Sulawesi. Based on the research findings, the multiple linear regression equation obtained is Y = 2.898 + 0.436X₁ + 0.214X₁ + 0.189X₁ + e. The results indicate that the most dominant variable affecting shipping safety is ship navigation equipment (X₁) with a regression coefficient of 0.436. The Adjusted R Square value is 0.526 or 52.6%, indicating that improvements in shipping safety aboard ships operated by PT. Dharma Lautan Utama, Parepare Branch, South Sulawesi are explained by ship navigation equipment, crew competence, and cargo capacity by 52.6%, while the remaining 47.4% is influenced by other variables not examined in this study.
