Abstract
Occupational safety and health (OHS) in the maritime sector is a crucial aspect in preventing workplace accidents, particularly on navigation vessels with high operational risks, such as the KN Edam at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta. This study aims to analyze the factors causing workplace accidents and formulate effective and sustainable prevention strategies. The study employed qualitative methods with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively to describe the actual conditions of occupational safety implementation on board the vessel. The results indicate that workplace accidents on the KN Edam were primarily caused by human factors such as negligence, fatigue, and non-compliance with SOPs, as well as by port environmental conditions, weather, and poorly maintained equipment. Preventive measures have been implemented through the implementation of SOPs, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safety briefings, training, equipment maintenance, and increased supervision and coordination. Although safety procedures have been developed in accordance with SOLAS, the Shipping Law, and the principles of the OHSMS, consistency in their implementation still needs to be improved.
