Abstract
Maritime safety is a top priority in passenger ship operations, particularly the Express Bahari 1C fast ship, which has a high risk of fire due to its operational speed and lightweight construction materials. As a supervisory agency, the Jepara Class II Port Organizing Unit Office is required to ensure the optimal functioning of the fire protection system. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the fire extinguishing system on the ship. This study aims to identify, analyze, and describe the fire extinguishing system installed on the Express Bahari 1C ship, as well as evaluate its compliance with applicable maritime safety standards, such as SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) and regulations from classification bureaus. The methods used are literature study, direct observation on board the ship, and interviews with the responsible crew. The analysis results show that the fire extinguishing system on the Express Bahari 1C is an integrated system, covering three main aspects: detection, extinguishing, and evacuation. The detection system consists of smoke detectors and heat detectors connected to the main fire alarm panel on the bridge. For the fire extinguishing system, this ship is equipped with various equipment, including dry powder and CO2 type fire extinguishers (APAR) placed in strategic locations, a hydrant system supported by main and emergency fire pumps, and a fixed fire fighting system using CO2 gas for the engine room.. It was concluded that the fire extinguishing system on the Express Bahari 1C has been comprehensively designed and meets regulatory standards to ensure the safety of passengers and crew in the face of fire hazards.
