Abstract
This scientific paper is entitled "REPAIR OF GENERAL SERVICE PUMP LEAKAGE ON THE KN PRAJAPATI." This research is motivated by the crucial role of centrifugal pumps in the ship's main engine cooling system, preventing overheating. The primary issue raised is the decline in cooling water pump performance on September 10, 2025, on the KN Prajapati due to component leakage. The purpose of this study is to determine the cause of the leak, how to handle it, and how to prevent it. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a field research approach. Data were collected through direct observation of the pump condition, interviews with the Chief of the Engine Room (KKM) and the Engineer, and documentation and literature review. The results indicate that the primary cause of the leak in the KN Prajapati centrifugal pump was wear on the sealing components, namely the gland packing. This damage resulted in a decrease in pressure and coolant flow capacity. The problem was addressed through an overhaul, which included inspecting the sealing system, disassembling, replacing worn components with new ones according to specifications, and conducting operational tests. To prevent recurrence of similar problems, consistent implementation of a Planned Maintenance System (PMS), daily performance monitoring, regular shaft alignment checks, and improving the competence of machine crews through technical training are recommended.
