Abstract

This study aims to analyze the performance and port cost efficiency of bulk urea fertilizer unloading operations at Tanjung Emas Port, Semarang, by comparing three types of unloading equipment: conveyor, grab, and excavator. The collected data include unloading time, berthing duration, operational disruptions, and port cost components, consisting of berthage, pilotage, towage, and unloading charges. The analysis results show that the conveyor has the highest effectiveness with an average unloading capacity of 109.79 MT/hour, followed by the excavator at 104.156 MT/hour, and the grab at 101.006 MT/hour. Downtime for the conveyor accounts for 19% of the total effective time, while the grab records 12%, and the excavator 18%. In terms of cost, the grab yields the highest total port cost at IDR 28,874,552, followed by the conveyor at IDR 25,337,476, and the excavator at IDR 21,549,045. The largest cost component comes from unloading charges, accounting for more than 70% of the total cost for all methods. These findings provide a quantitative overview of the relationship between the choice of unloading equipment, operational duration, and cost burden, and can serve as a strategic consideration in port operational planning to achieve an optimal balance between time efficiency and cost. Keywords: unloading operation, port charges, grab, conveyor, excavator.
