Abstract

Maritime safety is a crucial elements in maritime transportation that requires an effective and reliable maritime communication system. The Jepara Coastal Radio Station plays a strategic role in supporting maritime safety through the transmission of weather information, navigational updates, and emergency communication. Field conditions indicate several challenges affecting service effectiveness, including sudden weather changes, technical communication disruptions, and limited public understanding and trust in official information. This study aims to examine the role of the Jepara Coastal Radio Station, analyze the mechanism of weather information delivery to maritime communities, and identify the factors that support and hinder its operational effectiveness. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method through observation and interviews with the Head of the Jepara Coastal Radio Station as the primary informant. The collected data were analyzed descriptively to provide a systematic understanding of maritime communication practices carried out by the station. The findings indicate that the Jepara Coastal Radio Station serves as a vital communication link between vessels and shore-based authorities in supporting maritime safety. Its role is demonstrated through the delivery of safety information, emergency response communication, and the monitoring of maritime activities. The transmission of weather information is conducted systematically using official data obtained from relevant agencies and broadcast through marine radio communication channels, allowing vessels operating at sea to receive information directly. The operational effectiveness of the station is supported by the availability of communication equipment, the accuracy of information, and effective coordination among related institutions. This study highlights the importance of strengthening maritime communication systems through technological advancement, improved interagency coordination, and increased public trust in official maritime information in order to enhance maritime safety.
