Abstract
The Cylinder Head is a critical component of an engine, functioning as the combustion chamber and as the pathway for intake and exhaust airflow. During the repair process, cracks were identified in the Cylinder Head, rendering the component unusable and requiring replacement. This study applies a qualitative method to describe the stages of Cylinder Head maintenance, including damage identification, disassembly, condition inspection, and reassembly.A decline in main engine performance is generally caused by overheating due to an improperly functioning cooling system, such as insufficient coolant or system failure. This condition may lead to further damage, including gasket leakage and valve deformation, which ultimately affect compression and engine efficiency.Therefore, routine maintenance is essential to maintain engine performance, including cleaning cooling passages, inspecting the cooling system, and replacing worn components. The overhaul process must be carried out systematically according to the level of damage, ranging from minor repairs to complete component replacement. Proper maintenance ensures optimal engine performance, extends service life, and maintains safe and efficient vessel operations.
