Abstract
Painting of ships has a role to overcome rusting or corrosion. Painting a ship is an action or effort taken to maintain or restore an acceptable condition and function as usual so that it is always in good condition, correct and ready to use for smooth operations. A word ships need good maintenance, so that the ship is always in good condition and does not interfere with the comfort of the crew when operating. This activity was carried out to determine the stages of painting the ship to get maximum coating results and to find out the factors that cause corrosion on the ship's hull. The author uses several methods, namely interviews, observation, and dokument study and literature study. Primary data was obtained directly by interviewing related parties in embarkation activities. while secondary data obtained from data, archives and other sources. the author made direct field observations at PT. The Janata marina indah. The results of the discussion of this paper are that ship maintenance activities must be carried out periodically so that the ship is seaworthy and can facilitate sea transportation. In ship maintenance, among others, it is very important, namely maintenance of ship painting for ship maintenance for the treatment of ships against corrosion which is very dangerous if ignored, the use of paint on ship buildings is also not arbitrary, specifications are needed for base paint and as the first layer on the surface of the plate. The conclusion is that in carrying out ship maintenance it is carried out routinely in accordance with the rules that have been in effect, the constraints regarding maintenance tools are carried out manually.
