Abstract

This study aims to evaluate and determine the priority of the most effective and efficient safety equipment on cargo ships using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The evaluation considers four main criteria: Effectiveness, Cost, Regulatory Compliance, and Ease of Maintenance. The research uses the SuperDecisions software to calculate the weight of the criteria and the safety equipment alternatives, which include Life Rafts, Fire Extinguishers, Emergency Communication Devices, and Evacuation Equipment. The analysis results show that Life Rafts have the highest priority with a weight value of Raw = 1.000000 and Normalized = 0.568759, followed by Fire Extinguishers, Emergency Communication Devices, and Evacuation Equipment. Effectiveness, as the main criterion, received the highest weight (0.48070), indicating that equipment with high effectiveness in emergency situations is critical to prioritize. The study suggests that the procurement and maintenance of Life Rafts should be the primary focus in cargo ship safety policies. Additionally, although cost has a lower weight, it should still be considered, and regulatory compliance must be ensured for safety equipment to meet established standards. This study contributes to decision-making related to cargo ship safety equipment that can improve overall navigation safety. Keywords: AHP, safety equipment, cargo ships, effectiveness, priority.
