Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the performance of the Tanker Ship using the Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scales (BARS) method to assess the ship’s safety aspects over two months, June and July 2025. The study focuses on three main areas that serve as indicators of the ship’s safety: engine maintenance, cargo management, and emergency preparedness. Each daily activity performed during the period was rated on a scale from 1 to 5, reflecting the effectiveness of safety procedures implementation. The results indicate that the average performance for June was 4.15, reflecting good performance, though there were areas needing attention, such as preventive maintenance and chemical cargo security. In July 2025, there was an improvement with an average performance rating of 4.22, showing significant improvement, particularly in engine maintenance, hazardous cargo security, and emergency preparedness. The standard deviation of 0.26 indicates that this performance improvement was consistent and stable. In the fourth week of July, the ship achieved optimal performance with an average rating of 4.53, reflecting success in improving the operational effectiveness of the ship. Overall, the 0.07-point increase in the average performance from June to July indicates that the Cargo Ship successfully addressed challenges and continuously improved operational efficiency and emergency preparedness. Based on the findings, it is recommended to strengthen engine maintenance training, chemical cargo monitoring, and emergency preparedness drills to achieve more optimal performance in the future. Keywords: BARS, Ship Performance, Engine Maintenance, Cargo Security, Emergency Preparedness.
