Abstract
Safety and seaworthiness of ships in ports are crucial aspects of the maritime industry. The Class III Port Administration Unit Office (KUPP) in Batang plays a strategic role in overseeing ships operating within its jurisdiction. This study aims to analyze the supervisory role of KUPP Class III Batang in ensuring ship safety and seaworthiness, as well as identifying challenges in implementing maritime regulations. This research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing data collection techniques such as interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that KUPP Class III Batang carries out various supervisory functions, including ship seaworthiness inspections, certification of documents, and monitoring compliance with national and international maritime safety standards. However, challenges such as limited human resources, inadequate inspection facilities, and varying levels of compliance among ship operators persist. The study concludes that the effectiveness of KUPP Class III Batang’s supervision can be enhanced through capacity-building for inspectors, modernization of inspection facilities, and stronger collaboration between stakeholders in enforcing maritime safety regulations. Strengthening these aspects of supervision is expected to improve ship safety and seaworthiness at the KUPP Class III Batang Port. Keywords: supervision, ship safety, seaworthiness, port .
