Abstract
The steering system or steering gear is a supporting component of the machinery on board the ship, namely auxiliary machinery that has a very important role for the operational system of motion on the ship. Steering gear is a plane on the ship that is used to determine the direction of motion of a ship by utilizing hydraulic power to move the rudder to the left (port side) or to the right (starboard side). Maintenance of the hydraulic pump on the ship's steering gear includes routine checks, replacement of hydraulic fluid, and maintenance of the control system. This maintenance aims to maintain optimal steering system performance and prevent failures, such as leaks or pressure drops. After knowing how to maintain the steering gear and hydraulic pump, knowledge becomes clearer and easier to understand. Proper maintenance can maintain optimal hydraulic system performance, prevent damage, and extend the life of components. A good understanding of how steering gear and hydraulic pumps work and maintain makes it possible to predict potential problems and take appropriate precautions. Repairing a hydraulic pump is a very important aspect in maintaining the performance and reliability of the hydraulic system as a whole. Without proper and regular maintenance and repair, the hydraulic pump will not function normally, which can ultimately interfere with the operational process.
