Abstract

Man Overboard is an emergency situation where a person falls overboard from a ship, which requires efficient preventive measures to avoid it. Based on international law, especially the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), every ship is required to conduct emergency drills, including Man Overboard drills, to prepare the crew to face such situations. This paper entitled "Optimizing Man Overboard Drills for Crew Safety on KN. SAR Permadi 249 Surabaya" aims to analyze the drill implementation procedure, factors that influence its effectiveness, and steps to prevent incidents of people falling overboard. The method used in collecting data is qualitative, namely by observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the observation show that the drill procedure consists of three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation, which aim to improve crew preparedness. The effectiveness of the rescue is influenced by crew skills, weather conditions, and equipment readiness. To prevent incidents, it is important for personnel to undergo training according to STCW standards, carry out drills regularly, and maintain surveillance in hazardous areas. With these steps, it is hoped that Man Overboard incidents can be minimized and safety on board can be maintained. Keywords: Man Overboard, Drill, KN. SAR Permadi 249
