Abstract

Injectors are one of the important components in a ship's diesel engine fuel system that functions to optimally atomize fuel into the combustion chamber. Decreased injector performance can cause various serious problems, such as incomplete combustion, increased fuel consumption, increased exhaust emissions, and potential further damage to other engine components. This study aims to analyze the causes of injector damage and evaluate the maintenance and repair efforts applied to restore injector performance on ship engines, especially in the work environment of PT Citra Bahari Shipyard Tegal. The research method employed a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing data collection techniques that included field observations, technical interviews, documentation, and literature studies. The results showed that →damage most often occurred due to nozzle blockage, internal leakage, and solenoid damage. The maintenance and repairs carried out, such as cleaning using an ultrasonic cleaner and the infusion method, as well as pressure and spray pattern checks, proved effective in improving injector performance. Observations showed an increase in fuel pressure and a more even spraypattern after the repairs. The main causes of injector malfunction are poor fuel quality, lack of maintenance of the filtration system, and component life. It is recommended to implement a regular preventive maintenance system and add an additional fuel filtration system to improve efficiency and extend injector life. Standardization of maintenance procedures based on the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) should also be implemented to ensure consistency and quality of maintenance. Keywords: Injector, diesel engine, damage, maintenance, ship, fuel system.
