Abstract
Safety of navigation in waters is an important element in supporting the smooth running of shipping activities, especially in strategic areas such as the waters of Tanjung Intan, Cilacap. Navigation buoys are one of the shipping navigation aids which have an important role. Navigation buoys act as navigational aids that provide visual guidance to ships regarding safe shipping lanes and potential dangers in the waters. However, the condition of a buoy that is not maintained, such as physical damage, a dead signal light, or a shift in position, can increase the risk of a shipping accident. KN Prajapati has important responsibilities in carrying out routine checks and maintenance of navigation buoys in this area. This article aims to examine the importance of optimizing the checking and maintenance of buoys by KN Prajapati as an effort to support navigation safety. Using a descriptive qualitative approach through observations, interviews, and literature studies, this research found that regular maintenance of buoys contributes significantly to preventing shipping accidents, increasing the efficiency of sea transportation routes, and supporting economic activities at Tanjung Intan Port. Optimizing the maintenance of navigation buoys requires synergy between KN Prajapati, navigation workshops, marine observers and all relevant stakeholders to ensure continued shipping safety in the waters of Tanjungn Intan, Cilacap.
