Abstract

The main engine is the main driver on the ship which has the function of producing propulsion on the ship. The power generated from the main engine is obtained from the fuel combustion process that occurs in the main engine room. This fuel combustion will produce quite high power and heat. The main engine as the main driver is supported by several combustion chamber components, namely Piston, Piston ring, Cylinder liner, suction / exhaust valve, Crankshaft, Piston rod, injector. The heat generated in the fuel chamber can be damaged due to several factors. The purpose of this writing is to find out the maintenance procedure for the Combustion Chamber to prevent high heat from causing damage to the cylinder liner wall. The writing method used is observation, interviews, literature, namely observing and asking directly about the maintenance procedure to prevent damage to the cylinder liner wall. The results obtained in this writing show that the factors that cause damage to the cylinder liner in the combustion chamber such as cooling, uneven lubrication, the cooling system is not optimal, the sulfur content in the combustion chamber is too high 0.5% is the standard in sulfur content in IMO 2020, temperature and pressure. Therefore, proper preventive measures through maintenance can extend the life of the cylinder liner and avoid losses caused by these factors.
