Abstract
Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) is a ship traffic management system implemented in a certain area by the authorities (Minister of Transportation). The system is designed to improve shipping safety, navigation efficiency, and protect the marine environment. VTS has the ability to interact and respond to traffic situation developments through radio communication and electronic navigation systems. Internationally, VTS is recognized as part of the navigation safety standards based on Safety of Live at Sea (SOLAS) 1974/1978, specifically in Chapter V which regulates navigation safety. The data provided by VTS is crucial in ensuring the safety of the vessel. The purpose of this study is to know and understand the role of VTS and other electronic navigation aids in supporting shipping safety. The data collection methods used include observation, interviews, and literature studies. The results of the study show that companies have an obligation to provide navigation tools in accordance with applicable regulations, and VTS operators are able to utilize these tools effectively.
