Abstract
Echosounder is a eletronic navigation that plays an important role in ship safety, especially in determining the depth of waters. This research aims to analyze the role of echosounders in the navigation safety of KN ships. Karimun Jawa in the working area of the Tanjung Emas Port Navigation District, Semarang. The research methods used include field observations, interviews with ship operators, and analysis of water depth data obtained from echosounders. The research results that the use of an echosounder on KN. Karimun Jawa contributes significantly in avoiding shallow water, support hydrographic survey activities, and improving navigation safety around the port. However, there are several obstacles to its use, such as signal interference due to weather conditions and waves. Therefore, routine maintenance is required and increased operator competency in operating this tool. In conclusion, echosounders have a crucial role in KN navigation safety. Karimun Java, so optimizing its use and maintenance is very necessary to support the smooth running of shipping activities. Keywords: echosounder, navigation safety, KN.
