Abstract
Loading and unloading activities are activities that support the smooth transportation from and to ships to a port so that loading and unloading activities from and to ships have an important position. The geographical condition of Indonesia, which is an archipelagic country, where the waters are much wider than the land, is a natural thing that development and sea transportation need to be large, so as to support the smooth operation of sea transportation, one of which includes loading and unloading activities. And what makes it different from other regions is that Batam is a free trade zone (FTZ) area which is prepared to be the main gate for international freight and shipping traffic to become a free port that fulfills the vision and mission of the city of Batam to become the manager of the best investment destination in the Asia Pacific. This paper was prepared based on land practice at PT. Persero Batam. This writing aims to find out how the flow of loading and unloading activities starts from carrying out docking permits at the port to carrying out activities at the port until the loading and unloading activities are completed. The method used is descriptive method. The descriptive method was chosen because the research carried out aims to describe the data naturally. The data used are primary and secondary data. Primary data was collected by observing the object observation and direct interviews with the object of research, while secondary data was obtained from books, journals and literature studies.
