Abstract

The main engine is an internal combustion engine that produces motion energy and heat energy. To prevent excessive heat on the main engine, proper coolingis needed. One of the components that acts as an engine cooler is a fresh water cooler in the form of a heat exchanger. Fresh water cooler maintenance is an action to restore the fresh water cooler's ability to prime condition to cool fresh water and prevent engine failure due to engine temperature exceeding the specified limit. The purpose of this observation is to find out how the maintenance actions are carried out on the fresh water cooler of the main engine cooling system using the case study method in KN. KARIMUN JAVA. This paper uses qualitative and quantitative methods. Data collection was carried out by means of interviews, documentation, observation, with observations when the writer carried out land practice. the results of the discussion of this scientific paper conclude that fresh water cooler maintenance on navigation ships is functioning properly. As well as being carried out according to the work instructions of the machine instructions, according to the schedule, the results of the treatment are that the engine temperature returns as expected.
