Abstract
Navigating is part of the activities involved in sailing a ship from one place to another. Knowledge about navigation equipment is very important to assist a watch officer on the bridge in navigating the ship. The research methods used are the interview method and the descriptive method, which involves describing the data. The author's purpose in composing this scientific paper is to ensure that the navigation equipment on board the ship complies with the SOLAS 1974 Regulation 1974/1978, to improve the navigation system on the MT SC DISCOVERY XLVI to meet the SOLAS Regulation 1974/1978, and also to enhance the maneuvering skills of the watch officers. The result or benefit of this research is to provide input so that the company pays more attention to the condition of the navigation equipment on board, repairing it if it is damaged, and replacing it immediately if it cannot be repaired, because if it is not repaired promptly, it will disrupt the navigation process. If the company recruits officers, it is best to choose those who have good skills and are competent in their field and provide them with familiarization when they first board the ship. For the bridge watch officers to be more responsible for their watch duties and to be able to operate navigation equipment optimally, so that the ship can navigate well and arrive at its destination safely. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the navigation equipment on board the MT SC DISCOVERY XLVI is underdeveloped, and there is also a lack of company concern for the navigation equipment on the ship, as well as the limited ability of a watch officer on the bridge to operate the navigation equipment.
