Abstract

Windlass is an important part of a ship that functions to pull and lower anchors and is usually also used to moor ropes when the ship is docked at the dock. Windlass specifications are very important to pull each anchor and be able to lower anchors at low power by reversing the machinery and with gravity on hand control through brake friction. If the windlass is in a less than optimal condition, it will disrupt the performance of the windlass and cause damage and shorten the life of the windlass. Damage occurs due to lack of maintenance and repair. The use of the right anchor machine will provide great benefits to the operation of the ship. The purpose of writing this paper is to find out the basics about: Factors that cause damage to the gears on the windlass, the impacts that arise from damage to the gears on the windlass, Efforts made to handle and prevent damage to the gears on the windlass on KM. Permata Papua? The methods used in compiling scientific papers are observation and observation methods, library methods, interview methods, and descriptive methods. The results obtained by this author are after the cause of damage to the windlass gear, optimizing the maintenance and efforts made to handle and prevent damage to the gear on the windlass at KM.
