Abstract
The Syahbandar Office and the Thousand Islands Class IV Port Authority have a role in the management of ports and shipping in the region. Problems that arise by highlighting the duties of the office in supervision, law enforcement, coordination of government activities at ports, as well as regulation, control, and supervision of port activities at commercially operated ports. This study aims to reveal the critical role of the Syahbandar Office and Port Authority in the context of port and shipping management in the Thousand Islands. The data collection method involves participatory observation, interviews related sources as well as a literature or literature approach. Observation is carried out by direct observation in the field. The interview was conducted with Capt. Wahyu Adi, Sub-Section of Traffic and Sea Transportation and Port Business of the Syahbandar Office and the Thousand Islands Port Authority. In addition, the analysis of documents and literature provides a theoretical basis and reference in processing data. The results of this scientific work confirm that Kesyahbandaran and Port Authority have a vital role in regulating, supervising, and improving safety, security, and smooth shipping in the Thousand Islands. Cooperation between the Syahbandar Office and the Port Authority is considered important to achieve the objectives of improvement and performance improvement, involving operational coordination, security, licensing, regulation, infrastructure development, and environmental management. This research contributes to a further understanding of the institution's role in supporting the sustainability and effectiveness of port and shipping management in the archipelago.
