Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the extent to which quay container cranes affect the efficiency of the container loading and unloading process at Semarang Container Terminal. The objectives of this study were to identify key aspects that contribute to efficiency and determine the optimal strategy for crane utilization. Analysis of existing loading and unloading time data was used to assess operational efficiency and identify opportunities to reduce loading and unloading times and improve overall process efficiency. The research methods used include Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), Box Ship Hour (BSH), and loading and unloading efficiency formula. The results showed that the use of quay container cranes at Semarang Container Terminal numbers 6 and 9 is efficient, while numbers 4, 5, 7, and 8 are not efficient. Based on the analysis of the calculation of the average Berth Ship Hours (BSH) container loading and unloading for 2023, there are significant fluctuations from month to month with an annual average BSH of 49.825 hours, the highest value reaching 63.95 hours in August, and the lowest 39.89 hours in April. These variations are caused by differences in loading and unloading volumes, weather conditions, and the operational efficiency of the quay container cranes used. Analysis of the efficiency of container loading and unloading time during 2023 shows that the efficiency ranges from 67.1% to 78.2%, with an average of around 73.78%. Although there are monthly fluctuations, an increase in efficiency is seen in certain months such as May to September, reaching efficiencies above 75%. However, some months such as February and October show below-average efficiency, indicating room for improvement.
