Abstract
Indonesia is known as one of the maritime countries in the world because it is located in a very large sea area/territory, has many islands, is surrounded by sea and water areas and most of its population works in water areas. Maritime transportation in Indonesia has an important and strategic role in the mobilization of people and goods (logistics), which is one of the driving elements of the national economy. The presence of an adequate port plays a major role in supporting existing mobilization activities such as ship berthing, loading and unloading of goods, and boarding and disembarking of passengers. Tanjung Priok Port is the busiest port in Indonesia. This port handles more than 30% of Indonesia's non-oil and gas commodities, in addition to that, 50% of all goods flowing in/out of Indonesia pass through this port. Because of this, Tanjung Priok is a barometer of the Indonesian economy. One of the problems faced by Tanjung Priok Port is handling the arrival and departure of ships. This observation aims to find out how the arrival and departure of ships is handled by PT Orela Bahari Mandiri as an agency company at Tanjung Priok Port and to find out the obstacles in handling the arrival and departure of ships. This observation uses qualitative and descriptive methods to describe objects. This method is used to obtain all clear descriptions of procedures for handling ship arrivals and departures at Tanjung Priok Port. Based on observations, there are many obstacles in handling the arrival and departure of ships at Tanjung Priok Port. There are still delays in the arrival and departure of ships that are not according to schedule, problems related to supporting documents for ship entry and exit, expired administrative requirements from the seafarers themselves. Efforts that must be made are to coordinate and communicate regarding obstacles to the arrival and departure of ships at Tanjung Priok Port. Keywords: handling, agency, ship, port, transportation
