Abstract

An air compressor can simply be interpreted as a tool for inserting air and/or sending air at high pressure. The important role of the air compressor for the initial starting of the main engine needs attention in terms of carrying out maintenance in accordance with the instructions contained in the manual and the readiness of appropriate spare parts during repairs, it is hoped that the performance of the air compressor will be maximum and in accordance with its working limits. The purpose of this writing This paper finds out how to carry out maintenance on an air compressor so that the air pressure produced is maximum. To find out the factors causing not optimal performance of the Air Compressor on the ship's main engine, this paper uses the field research method. Primary data is obtained from observations and interviews with the crew of the TB, Bloro ship, while secondary data comes from data, manual books and journal references. Air compressor maintenance is carried out with daily and routine maintenance. Factors that cause the air compressor not to work optimally are low lubricating oil pressure and the air coming out is too hot. the lack of air supply for starting the engine is caused by dirty air valves, the lack of air supply to run the main engine is caused by increasing coolant temperatures due to air leaks.
