Abstract
The Maritime transportation field is attached many accident caused by human factors (human error) or technical errors of ship equipment. In the world of shipping, GMDSS equipment is a system that must be owned by commercial vessels. The function and role of the global maritime distress and safety system (GMDSS) in an emergency/disaster at sea is to improve safety or minimize casualties and facilitate rescue efforts for ships, in the event of an accident or emergency at sea. The implementation of the GMDSS practice is communication that contains the news about an emergency (example: the ship wants to sink). The position of the Navigation District is very close to Tanjung Emas port. It is hoped that the communication practices will not be heard by those in the port of Tanjung or the vessels in the Tanjung Emas waters, so there is no misunderstanding. The use of channels by other parties. This caused the frequent communication practices that we carried out to be interrupted due to difficulties in finding unused channels. Disruption of the practice of ship to ship communication and ship communication practices to coast stations due to audible communication by other parties. This paper uses quatitative date collection using observation interviews with direct observation and documentation.For this reason, the author composes a paper with Global Maritime Distress And Safety System (GMDSS) communication system to support navigation safety at the Port of Tanjung Emas Semarang by the Class II Navigation District of Tanjung Emas Semarang.Caused the role of GMDSS is very important for shipping safety and facilitates evacuation in the event of a accident.
