Abstract
VTS is an effort to meet safety and security requirements that helps reduce the risk of accidents, improves ship navigation, and facilitates the smooth operation of busy ports or shipping lanes. One of them is Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta, which has dense and complex ship traffic. then every ship entering or leaving Tanjung Priok Port is required to report to VTS Tanjung Priok via radio on a special/certain frequency. Although VTS plays an important role in maintaining the safety and efficiency of maritime travel, there are also several obstacles that can affect VTS performance. Such as technological limitations, disruption to communication, traffic control is not optimal, etc. The aim of this research is to identify the implementation of VTS performance at the Port of Tanjung Priok Jakarta and to determine the factors inhibiting the performance of the Tanjung Priok VTS in carrying out monitoring activities and identifying vessels experiencing problems so that immediate action can be taken to ensure shipping safety is achieved. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach by conducting an analysis based on the suitability between the implementation of the VTS service at Tanjung Priok station and the regulations set by the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, Ministry of Transportation, namely in terms of suitability of the VTS service SOP documents. Based on research results, the implementation of the VTS system has a significant positive impact in improving supervision, coordination and security in waters. With the various technologies that VTS Tanjung Priok has, the risk of collisions can be reduced significantly, ensuring safe and efficient ship movements. The use of VTS for shipping at the port of Tanjung Priok, helps provide information and messages to ships, helps provide warning messages regarding navigational and meteorological hazards, and helps regulate large ship traffic in a particular port or waters.
