Abstract

Transshipment is a method of coal distribution which is sending coal from one mode of transportation to another transportation over waters to reach the final delivery destination. Based on the real situation, one of the most frequent problems during the transshipment process is the difference of final coal volume compared to before the transshipment. This difference tends to lead to a reduction amount of coal (deadfreight) which is called a shortage cargo. Various efforts have been made by PT. Sedayu Makmur Abadi to avoid shortage of cargo, but these efforts are still not optimal because it is not yet known which is the biggest factor that causes a shortage of cargo in coal transshipment at PT. Sedayu Makmur Abadi. This research was conducted to determine these factors through testing using descriptive quantitative research methods using the SPSS program. The variables used in this research are draft surveys, cargo losses and hydrostatic barge tables. The results obtained show that the three variables partially have a positive and significant effect on cargo shortages. Draft survey, cargo losses and barge hydrostatic tables have an influence of 46.9% on the shortage of cargo while the remaining 53.1% is influenced by other variables not included in this study. Keywords: transshipment, shortage cargo, hydrostatic table barge, draft survey
