Abstract
Abstraction-Sounding is an object that is used or used for calculating water or oil on a ship with the aim of maintaining the stability of the ship, so that the ship does not tilt to the right or left, so that the ship does not tilt when sailing. Ballast water is water used as ballast and balance for ships when sailing. Ballast water on ships plays a very important role in increasing ship stability. The qualitative descriptive method is a data analysis method used by researchers. The definition of descriptive is a research method to describe existing or occurring phenomena. Meanwhile, qualitative is a data collection technique by means of observation, document review and interviews. The function of ship ballast is one of the service systems on ships that transports and fills ballast water. The ballast pump system is intended to adjust the level of inclination and draft of the ship, as a result of changes in the ship's load so that the stability of the ship can be maintained. By regularly calculating ballast soundings, you can prevent imbalances in the ship's stability so that sailing can be carried out safely. The importance of understanding the filling process and calculating sounding ballast water by filling it from land to the ship is because it is related to the stability of the ship. Function calculating ballast water soundings by filling from land to ship at PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (PERSERO) Kupang Branch. The impact caused by inaccurate calculations of ballast water soundings is an imbalance in the stability of the ship which can affect the movement of the ship. Sounding is a way to determine the amount of liquid load (volume) contained in a tank, whether on land or on a ship.
