Abstract
The intercooler is one part of a box-shaped diesel engine located on the side or bottom of the turbo charge compressor, which is made of a thin layer of thin longitudinal plates and serves to lower the temperature of the compressed air/filler air before the air enters the cylinder. Shipping services can be disrupted if the intercooler work on the rinse air temperature in the prime mover engine is problematic due to lack of knowledge about good and correct maintenance methods so that the intercooler does not work as expected by officers who are working in the engine room. Intercooler is a cooling device that has a function to cool the air that will enter the cylinder. The intercooler is located on the side or bottom of the turbocharger and has the function of lowering the temperature of the filler air before it enters the cylinder. The intercooler has a very important role, namely helping the main engine performance so that it can work optimally on board. Data collection carried out at PT. Pelindo III Semarang are interviews, observations, and document studies. The results of data collection in land practice include factors that cause non- optimal performance of the intercooler on the main propulsion engine, the impact that arises from the cause of the blockage of the intercooler air side on the main propulsion engine and how maintenance efforts are carried out to overcome the problems that occur in the intercooler. To prevent these problems, care needs to be taken. Such as replacing damaged components with new components and conducting regular inspections. Keywords: Maintenen, Intercooler and Main Engine
