Abstract

The piston ring is a component that is shaped like a ring which functions to tighten and keep the gas from escaping during the compression process and the business cycle in the combustion chamber. Based on its function, piston rings are divided into 2 types, namely compression rings and oil rings. The compression ring serves to prevent leakage from the fuel and air mixture. The oil ring serves to prevent the different oil in the crankcase from entering the combustion chamber. In writing scientific papers, the writer uses the method of observation, literature and documentation. To obtain more objective data, the authors collected data at PT Rukina Sukses Abadi regarding damage to the piston rings. Damage to piston rings can be caused by several factors including, the condition of the lubricating oil is not considered and the working life of the piston has expired or must be replaced. Damage to the piston rings can hamper the main engine's performance process, therefore it requires thorough maintenance on the main engine parts. From these results it can be concluded that can be used as a guide to find out about the lack of lubrication in the cylinder and the resulting impact on the broken piston ring is that the exhaust temperature of the main engine increases and the compression pressure in the cylinder decreases, and the efforts made to overcome this problem are by adding lubrication in the cylinder. Keywords: piston ring, damage, maintenance and repair
