Abstract
Regarding ship operational activities that cause oil pollution, according to Marine Pollution (MARPOL) 1973/1978, every ship is required to implement Annex I. The application of Annex I on ships is used in an effort to prevent oil spills on ships. So it is necessary to review all matters relating to the prevention of marine pollution by oil, where the structure, equipment, equipment system, planning, and condition of the ship comply with the provisions of Attachment I to the Marine Pollution Convention (MARPOL) 1973/1978. The data used for research purposes is qualitative data. The sources of pollution that occur in MT.NARIVA are during bunkering and over flow. And the actions taken at the time of an oil spill onboard the MT.NARIVA ship were in accordance with existing procedures, as well as the obstacles found when dealing with pollution at MT.NARIVA. The purpose of this study is to identify and explain international provisions governing the prevention of oil spills carried out by ships and their implementation in Indonesian law. From the analysis of the discussion, it can be concluded that MT.NARIVA has made efforts to handle marine pollution by oil as regulated in Marine Pollution Annex l.
