Abstract
ABSTRACT The main discussion in writing this paper is made to get a better picture of the procedures and techniques for surviving at sea using a life jacket. The problems contained are about the types and types of life jackets that exist and are commonly used, what procedures and techniques are used in the selection and maintenance of life jackets, how are procedures and techniques in an effort to survive at sea using life jackets. The purpose of this observation is to find out the types and types of life jackets that exist, to know about the procedures and techniques for selecting and maintaining life jackets as well as procedures and techniques for using life jackets in the process of surviving at sea. For the data collection used, the authors used methods obtained through interviews, observations which saw directly the activities in the office, books, archives, and other sources, also explained about the profile of the Office of the National Search and Rescue Agency Bandung itself. In the discussion it is explained about the types and types of life jackets, Life jackets that use styrofoam foam material (inherently bouyant life jackets) and Life jackets that use air/CO2 (inflatable life jackets), of these types there are five types, namely type I offshore, type II near-shore, type III flotation aid, type IV throwable and type V special use. He also explained about swimming procedures and techniques while in the middle of the sea such as individual swimming techniques, group swimming, HELP positions, Huddle positions and uitemate techniques. From the discussion, it can be concluded that it is very important for every sailing crew to understand what types and types of life jackets are available so that they are not mistaken when used in the field because each life jacket has different functions and abilities, and it is very important to know how the procedures and techniques are. maintenance of the life jacket itself and the use of life jackets on board as well as the concept of survival.
