Abstract
The fresh water cooling pump is one of the auxiliary equipment that supports the operation of the main engine on board using fresh water. The fresh water cooling pump functions to cool the main engine on board. This paper was made to find out the factors that are less than optimal for fresh water cooling pumps, to find out the efforts that must be made so that the fresh water cooling pump works perfectly, to find out about the lack of maintenance of fresh water cooling pumps on main engine performance. Therefore the authors use the method by way of observation Iinterviews, and data documentation during practice at the Kesyahbandaran Utama Tanjung Perak Surabaya. In the maintenance of fresh water cooling pumps, leaks often occur in the pump suction vessel which causes air to enter the suction vessel. Pump packing that is too thick can result in the installation of bolts on the flange being reduced. Meanwhile, the maintenance schedule for fresh water cooling pumps is carried out weekly maintenance, monthly maintenance and annual maintenance. The influence of the fresh water cooling pump on the influence of the main engine, among others: the main engine becomes hot, the main engine speed drops automatically. In writing this paper, it can be concluded that the cause of imperfect maintenance on the fresh water cooling pump includes a leak in the suction vessel so that there is air entering and causing damage to the fresh water cooling pump. And it is advisable to carry out routine maintenance on fresh water cooling pumps. Keywords: Cooling Pump, Main Machine, Maintenance
