Abstract
The main engine is part of a ship, this is because the main engine functions as the prime mover of the ship which rotates the propeller so that the ship can move. In the operation of the ship's main engine there are several systems to support the performance of the engine itself, including: Lubrication system, Lubricating Oil is a liquid that is used as a lubricant in the machine to reduce wear and tear due to friction. And as a cooler, silencer. However, high temperatures in the engine will damage the viscosity if the viscosity of the lubricant decreases. The heat that arises is increasing so that the temperature continues to increase. Normal lubrication temperature is 45℃-50℃ and abnormal temperature is 50℃-70℃. Rising oil temperature can be caused by a lack of heat absorption in the lubricating oil cooler and can also be caused by the volume of cooling media that enters the lubricating oil cooler which is not proportional to the lubricating oil being cooled. To obtain data, the authors use various methods, namely observation, interviews and literature study. From the results of observations it can be seen that the cause of the increase in lubricating oil temperature is caused by coolers, pumps, oil filters. If the lubricating oil temperature rises, maintenance or repairs must be carried out on the lubrication system so that the lubricating oil temperature returns to normal. Suggestions always monitor the temperature of the lubricating oil, input and output pressure on the L.O Cooler so that there is no increase in the lubricating oil temperature in the main engine lubrication system of the ship.
