Abstract
Fire drill is a training program that must be carried out on ships according to the rules contained in the Safety Of Life At Sea (SOLAS) Chapter III Regulation 9.3.4 book, and each ship crew must have knowledge and skills in the operation of fire extinguishers according to the rules of the Standard Of Training Certification and Watchkeeping For Seafarer (STCW) table A-VI / 1-2. The purpose of this study is to find out how the knowledge and skills of the crew, besides that this study also aims to find out the training system that should be applied as an increase in the knowledge and skills of the crew in relation to the procedures for using fire extinguishers in KN SAR Permadi. This research uses qualitative descriptive method, data collection is carried out by interviews, observations, documentation and literature studies. The results showed that, the main cause of the failure to implement a fire drill at KN SAR Permadi was the lack of knowledge of the crew on the procedures for using fire extinguishers, lack of discipline and low awareness about the dangers that could be caused. The efforts applied to improve the knowledge and skills of the crew in relation to fire extinguishers at KN SAR Permadi are to carry out fire drills regularly at least 1 time a month according to the rules contained in the book Safety Of Life At Sea, safety movies, familiarization of modern tools and solas training, must be optimized by the crew.
