Abstract
Generator is one type of auxiliary engine on board which is used as a means of generating electricity by converting mechanical energy into electrical energy. The generator has a very important role in supplying electricity to the ship, so that the generator can run normally and in order to avoid disturbances, performance optimization and maintenance are carried out periodically in accordance with the provisions and based on the manual so that the generator does not experience damage during operation and runs normally. This research are used two types of data. first is qualitative data, qualitative data is descriptive data or data that is not in the form of numbers, usually expressed in the form of verbal, symbols, or pictures. The second is Qualitative data, Qualitative data can be obtained through interviews, questionnaires, observations, literature studies, and so on. So that the author can provide an accurate pictures and data. The data source was obtained by the author using the data collection method which was carried out directly to the object of observation which is carrying out at the KNP. 330 Special KSOP Batam. The purpose of optimizing performance and maintenance is to prevent errors in starting the engine and prevent damage to components when the engine is working, because one of the causes of generator damage is the lack of maintenance on the generator due to the limited availability of spare parts on board. Keywords: Optimalitation, Performance and Maintenance of Diesel Generator
