Abstract

In the construction project the Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger is used for maritime maintenance ranging from maintenance of ports and access canals to giant land reclamation projects that require millions of cubic meters of sand. Therefore, to operate the dredge pump in order to obtain maximum power by means of maintenance of the propulsion engine and the dredge pump which must be carried out periodically to the components and drive system of the dredge pump. The purpose of this research is to serve as comparison material for readers to be able to understand how to operate a dredger, especially those related to the world of shipping, find out the impacts and how to overcome them and how to maintain the propulsion engine and dredger pump so that the dredging results can work optimally. The method used in this research is the observation method, interview method, documentation method and literature study method. The cause of the operation not working optimally and damage to the impeller of the dredger pump is due to the lack of regular maintenance on the dredger pump, thus affecting the dredging performance which is less economical. To overcome mechanical damage to the pump, it is carried out by overhauling and by cleaning the inside of the pump using either paper honing, steel brush or wire brush with attention to the surface of the pump so that damage does not occur. These results can be drawn conclusions that can be used as guidelines for carrying out routine and well-planned maintenance so that the dredge pump operation process can be carried out according to the procedure.
