Abstract
In line with the development of science and technology, the level of human need for safety has also increased, one of which is from the transportation sector, especially sea transportation where ships traveling at sea will not always run smoothly, but one day they will experience a disaster. constraints both external and internal factors of the ship itself. The main point of discussion in writing this paper is the importance of fire extinguishers in an effort to optimize the use for safety on the KN SAR SADEWA 231 Basarnas Semarang ship. APAR is an active fire protection tool that is effectively used to extinguish fires at the start of a fire. The background of the problem in this paper is optimizing the use of APAR when extinguishing fires and maintaining APAR. The purpose of this paper is to improve the abilities, knowledge, skills and work discipline and sense of responsibility of officers and crew members, in carrying out work on ships and to provide direction on the importance of optimizing and improving the maintenance of fire extinguishers on ships to children. sailors and junior officers. The method used in writing this paper is using observation techniques, interviews, through print media, and the internet to get an accurate discussion. The results of this paper show the inspection of components, requirements for placement and maintenance of APAR, especially regarding safety, protection and work environment before operating an APAR. And it is mandatory to check in order to avoid things that are not desirable and to expedite the work of the APAR when it is used.
