Abstract
The Schottel engine is one of the ship propulsion tools which is also a tool to assist ship maneuvering. In this system, no steering wheel is needed to maneuver the ship because this system has the ability to rotate itself up to an angle of 360°. To support the smooth operation, maintenance and repair of the Schottel engine is carried out on the ship. The purpose of this paper is to find out and increase knowledge about the causes of LO leaks on schottel engines, find out corrective actions on schottel engines, and know how to repair and maintain schottel engines. The method used in this writing is the method by observing the object and systematically recording the symptoms under investigation, the interview method in collecting data about the maintenance and repair of Schottel, the author conducts interviews with sources, namely the head of the engine room, machinist 1 and oil interpreter and the method of documentation in this case. The author studied documents related to the problems observed, namely documents regarding the maintenance and repair of Schottel according to the manual book and oil record book. The causes of leaking oil on the Schottel engine include damaged O-rings, torn hydraulic pipe hoses, loose pipe connector bolts and incorrect use of lubricating oil. From this it can be concluded that the maintenance carried out in accordance with the manual book will make the engine's performance optimal and the machine's service life more durable, therefore it would be nice if we had to frequently perform maintenance and check the components of the schottel engine.
