Abstract
The fresh water generator on board is one of the auxiliary machinery that can convert sea water into fresh water through the distillation process. Fresh Water Generator starting when full away and stopped when vessel manouvering. Fresh Water Generator has a very important role in the smooth operation of the ship, where every ship in the operation of the ship cannot be separated from the need for fresh water. The purpose of this observation is to find out the cause of the lack of maximum vacuum in the shell evaporator, which results in a less than optimal Fresh Water Generator in fresh water production. This paper was carried out when the author carried out sea practice (prala) on the MT ship. LUCIA SOLIS owned by PT PATRIA NUSASEGARA for 12 months, namely from March 21, 2021 to March 27, 2022. The source of the data obtained is data obtained directly from the observation site using the observation method, direct interviews with the Chief Engineer, Engineer, and other crew members in particular engine crew. The library method used is in the form of documents, instruction manual books, and books related to the title of the paper. The results obtained from the observations and analysis of this author are the occurrence of problems with the ejector pump, ejector and clogged condenser holes on the fresh water generator that is currently operating. This results in a vacuum that is not maximal in the evaporator shell so that in the process of lowering the boiling point it does not achieve the desired result, and causes the water to not evaporate quickly, ultimately resulting in a decrease in the amount of fresh water production in the Fresh Water Generator.
