Abstract

The turbocharger is an auxiliary machinery driven by exhaust gases from a diesel engine which functions to pump air which is used for flushing and combustion in the cylinders. This is done by channeling the combustion gas pressure to a turbine, and using this turbine power to drive a blower. This blower is used to press air into the combustion chamber with the aim of getting as much oxygen as possible for the combustion process so that engine power increases. The purpose of this paper is to determine the repair and maintenance of turbochargers in KM. Bahari Express. The turbocharger is a system that functions to produce air beyond one atmosphere which is used in the combustion process in the engine cylinder. KTI uses several methods, by means of observation, interview, library research, and documentary methods, that the causes of the decline in turbocharger performance in diesel generators are poor lubricating oil conditions and lack of maintenance, against the turbocharger work support system which makes the viscosity of the lubricating oil change, so that it has an impact on the damage to the thrust bearing components and results in a decrease in air pressure entering the combustion chamber. The results of the discussion in this ccientific aper are that the results of regular maintenance of the turbocharger work support system need to be carried out properly and in accordance with the maintenance schedule made, so as to identify problems as early as possible and prevent greater damage.
