Abstract
Jakarta's Tanjung Priok Maritime Meteorological Station is a technical implementation group under the Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika (BMKG) which is a Lembaga Pemerintah Non Departemen (LPND) which is engaged in providing services. One of the main tasks is to observe meteorological elements and make weather forecasts for the northern waters of Pangkal Pinang, Gelasa Strait, northern Bangka Strait, southern Bangka Strait, southern Karimata Strait, western Java Sea, Kep waters. Seribu, the northern waters of West Java, the waters south of West Java, the Indian Ocean south of West Java. especially for maritime or marine services to support sailing safety. The purpose of writing is to find out the procedures, the types of tools used, and the obstacles faced by BMKG in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of weather observation to navigation safety. With the method of collecting data both by observation, interview, and library research that the author collected, an accurate discussion of the problem can be taken. In solving this problem using observation methods / methods must pay attention to the properties of an object, considering that objects are not only one and different, season also affects the properties of one object to another. Therefore the role of the Observer (the person in charge of doing the observation) is very reliable in this regard. So that observations can be made appropriately. Optimization of observations like this is what determines a weather forecast information for navigation safety. From this writing, the results show the role of the Class I Tanjung Priuk Maritime Meteorological Station in conducting observations and forecasting weather so that events about ship accidents due to bad weather can be avoided so that a result is obtained, namely safety in shipping.
